How to get water to your taps and cookware
The U.S. is the world’s second-largest producer of freshwater supplies, and the world still imports about half its water.
But the U.N. estimates that the U-turn will leave about 60 percent of the world in a water shortage.
With the global population doubling in the next 50 years, water shortages are expected to worsen as we reach that point.
The U-Turn: The Environmental Impact Report The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) says it will need a budget of about $500 billion to meet its environmental goals for the coming decades.
So what can we do to get the world to tap into water?
Here are six key steps to take to help solve water shortages.
Use more water to grow food.
The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that more than 70 percent of people worldwide use less than two-thirds of the water they need.
The United Nations is calling for a water price to be put on all goods and services.
We can also increase the use of water conservation, or re-use it more often.
The water we drink is also used for irrigation and for food production.
Get out of the car.
We use about three-quarters of the amount of water we use to grow our food and feed our families, according to the UMW.
This includes drinking water.
We also use it to clean our air, water the lawn, and treat sewage.
Get off the grid.
Water is also important for a lot of things, from building to powering homes and businesses.
With electric grids, energy can come from anywhere, from the sky to the ground.
And with new technologies, it’s easy to get more water for your home.
Get more recycling.
We recycle a lot more water than we use, so we can tap into the water reserves we already have to grow crops and water our gardens.
If we start to recycle more water, we can reduce our use of other water sources, and also increase our water recycling capacity.
Reduce the pollution of the oceans.
We need a major shift in how we think about the oceans, and that’s a water-based approach to managing pollution.
That’s the focus of a new report by the nonprofit group Water for All.
Its goal is to reduce the number of tons of CO2 emissions from the oceans by 90 percent.
Make more efficient power plants.
This one may seem like a no-brainer, but we’re going to have to start thinking about how we’re using the energy we produce.
Solar, wind, and other renewable energy can be a good option, but they’re only as good as the water and energy they use.
A new report from the United Nations estimates that we need to make the energy used in solar, wind and other clean energy sources 100 percent renewable by 2030.
And we need a global agreement on how to do that.
